Hip arthroscopy involves using a camera and narrow surgical instruments (similar in size to a pencil) through several (2-4) small incisions to perform many different procedures to correct hip pain. Hip arthroscopy is a minimally invasive procedure and does not involve a large incision or detachment of muscles or tendons to see into the hip joint and the areas surrounding the hip. Many problems are treatable by hip arthroscopy today and the benefit of it being minimally invasive allows you to go home the same day as the surgery and potentially recover faster.
If you have hip pain that has prevented working out or is interfering with everyday activities or work, you could have a problem that hip arthroscopy can fix. Problems such as hip impingement, torn cartilage, loose cartilage, hip instability, torn ligaments, bone spurs, tendonitis and bursitis can all be addressed with arthroscopy of the hip. Even sports hernias and some types of lower back pain may be related to hip problems and are also treatable by hip arthroscopy.
